- Marko's Helmet
One day, Marko forgets his bicycle helmet in the park. What happens with it during the night? When a hedgehog, mice and other animals lay their paws on it, the helmet becomes something else entirely. The next day, the boy finds the helmet where he left it, but he is in for a surprise …
ABOUT:
After the exceptionally well-received picture book series Jakob and Queenie the Cat (O Jakobu in muci Mici), where the texts of Barbara Hanuš were illustrated by Ana Zavadlav, Marko’s Helmet follows a similar concept: the impishly and colourfully illustrated story in Slovenian (the visual image has been created by Marjan Manček) is followed by translations into English, Russian, Albanian and Bosnian, which are accompanied by a few vignette illustrations. The text, which, in terms of its size and the (non-)difficulty of the content, is more than suitable for learning to read independently for the first time, is printed in all caps. The four languages the original text is translated into have been selected based on information (from school libraries etc.) on which languages are most in demand in Slovenia, which means the book can be interesting to a wide range of young readers.
